Riverwind Casino Opens

Riverwind Casino, Oklahoma's largest casino, has opened its doors to gamblers July 17. The casino is almost double the size of Caesar's Palace Las Vegas and The Mirage Casinos with its 219,000 square foot building on 15.5 acres.

The casino received a warm welcome even without much advertisement, hosting some 2,000 guests on its opening day. A grand opening ceremony is slated for August 10.

"We have the latest and newest games, and our goal is to create a quality experience unlike anything our customers have ever seen in Oklahoma," said Chickasaw Enterprises CEO Brian Campbell. "We're trying to achieve a Las Vegas-style experience."

Riverwind casino is the 18th for the Chicksaw Nation, and will be employing 1,800 people full and part-time. Campbell predicts that the opening of the casino will have a significant impact on the economy of local communities.

At present, the impact can already be felt as Chickasaw Enterprises built a $1.7 million sewage treatment plant for Goldsby and a $2.1 million water tower for Newcastle.

The management prides itself on offering a genuine "Las Vegas experience" being at par with the best that Vegas has to offer, and patrons think likewise.

"This is great to have so close to the city," said Oklahoma City resident Brandi Murphy. "The variety of slot machines is great. I don't really play the table games. I want to bring my parents to show them (the casino.)"

Desiree Townsend of Dallas, said she was just passing through when she decided to stop.

"It's beautiful -- really nice," she said. "It's just like Vegas."
